Building a Quality Catalog
Bidders should be provided with as much information as possible to ensure they can make an educated bidding decision. The more information a bidder is armed with, the more money they are likely to spend. Providing thorough information also means that bidders are less likely to reach out to the auction company with questions. Bidders browse online catalogs at all hours of the day. If they cannot immediately reach the auction company to have their questions answered, they may opt not to bid. Studies show that detailed descriptions and multiple images lead to increased registration, catalog views, and pre-bids.
The following are key points to consider when loading a catalog and images:
- The lot descriptions should be detailed and should include things like measurements and features.
- All parts/accessories should be listed in the lot description.
- Lots should be categorized.
- Any damage, missing parts, or malfunctioning features should be documented via the lot description and images.
- Take high-quality photographs of inventory items.
- All images should meet Proxibid's Image Requirements.
- Multiple images should be provided of each lot.
- Images should contain views from every angle, include wide angles and close ups.
- When photographing lots, be cognizant of the background. Use light backgrounds for dark-colored items and dark backgrounds for light-colored items. Try to avoid busy/messy backgrounds.
- Any inventory flaws/damage should be photographed.
- The more expensive the item, the more photos there should be. Up to 100 photos can be uploaded to each lot. Video can be added as well.
Cataloging Vehicles, Machinery & Implements
Detailed lot descriptions are critical. Be sure to include the crucial information listed above as well as the following:
- Whether or not there is a title
- Whether or not it runs
- Make
- Model
- Year
- Serial Number or VIN Number
- Hours or mileage
- Condition
- Attachments
- Any damage
Recommended photos to take:
- Front vanity
- Rear vanity
- Side profile
- Serial Plate/Serial Number Tag
- Hour/Mileage Meter
- Cab
- Tires/Spokes
- Damage
- Working parts (hydraulics, etc.)

Anything that would be expensive for the bidder to replace should be photographed to avoid issues with closing the sale.
